The title honestly speaks for itself, plus, you can see the photo below for reference. Amerat is a town on the other side of the mountain from Bowshar, Muscat. Many people live there, and many people have to commute from Amerat to Muscat for work, and for general things like shopping, hanging out and so on. Thus, creating a traffic jam almost every day, and also taking a while to get from point A to point B.
Oman decided to create a shorter route from Muscat to Amerat by literally creating a new road through the mountains from Bowshar, creating a fun road to drive on and also a beautiful road to drive on. A road which created one of the most breathtaking views points of Muscat.
As you’re about to finish your ascent, a small and unmarked right turning presents itself quite abruptly (if you’re driving towards Amerat). Note, this viewpoint is only accessible on the way up, not the way down. An alternative viewpoint exists on the way down, but the viewpoint on the way up is where everyone goes for picnics, BBQ’s and to simply hang out and watch the sunset.
As you turn in, you're faced with a pretty rocky terrain, which is actually accessibly for all types of vehicles (From what I’ve seen), although I do recommend having a tough car just to be on the safe side.
Once you get to the viewpoint, park your car and enjoy the view. I recommend going at around 5pm as this is when the sun tends to transform the sky. You can also see the squiggly road which to me is just as amazing as the sunset.
